10. Sustainable Brooklyn
Sustainable Brooklyn, founded by Dominique Drakeford and Whitney McGuire, bridges the gap between sustainability and communities of color through education, events, and cultural programming. We center the African diaspora to challenge the limits of mainstream sustainability, offering regenerative strategies rooted in Black liberation.
The current sustainability movement often excludes BIPOC voices, appropriates cultures, and operates within a colonial framework. We aim to shift this by providing tools and resources that promote cultural celebration, economic empowerment, land sovereignty, and community healing.
With a focus on fashion, food, and wellness, we partner with diverse stakeholders while amplifying BIPOC voices. We are the source for the evolution of sustainability.
As an intern and executive assistant, I created event graphics and supported the planning and execution of initiatives.
